Biography
Aaliyah

January 16th 1979 was the day that a very talented lady was born, Aaliyah Dana Haughton. She was born in Brooklyn, New York to Michael and Diane Dana Haughton. At an early age she found her love for performing and soon found her stage name Aaliyah. Her talents were found in singing, dancing, and being a fashion model/actress. She achieved these goals very quickly, which proves an evident gift in what she loved doing. Having teamed up with Missy Elliot, Timbaland and Steve Garrett, they produced Aaliyah’s albums together that took the world by storm and are now R&B classics. The person that made her famous was R.Kelly in the mid 90’s but her success was down to her. During her career Aaliyah sold over 24 million records world wide and had seven top 10 singles in the Billboard Hot 100. Aaliyah signed with her Uncle Barry Hankerson’s Blackground label in 1993 and released her debut ‘Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number’ in 1994. Within months the album reached platinum status and featured the gold-selling singles ‘Back and Forth and ‘At Your Best You Are Love’. ‘Back and Forth’ was number one in the U.S R&B charts for three weeks and ‘At Your Best You Are Love’ was number two in the U.S R&B charts, but this was an Isley Brothers track that was released back in 1976.

Biography

R.Kelly and Aaliyah married when the singer lied her age, but both soon separated when the press found out about the union and R.Kelly would no longer work on Aaliyah’s future records. Aaliyah’s second dream came true when she starred in the Fox Animation Studios animated feature ‘Anastasia’; here she sung the pop version of “Journey to the Past”. The song was nominated for an Academy Award and Aaliyah performed it at the 97 Academy Awards Ceremony, making history. Her future success continues as an actress starring in many Sound tracks and Movies, Doctor Doolittle, Romeo Must Die, and Queen of the Damned. While recording her recent Movie she was also in the studio recording her latest album ‘Aaliyah’. This was her most established sounding album (in my opinion) and featured great tracks on it such as ‘We Need a Resolution’ and ‘Rock the Boat’. Sadly the worst was to come. When Aaliyah travelled to the Bahamas in August 2001 to film the video for ‘Rock the Boat’ with director Hype Williams the plane crashed on the return home. When Aaliyah travelled to the Bahamas in August 2001 to film the video for ‘Rock the Boat’ with director Hype Williams the plane crashed on the return home. Everyone was excited about the new anticipated single, and Aaliyah was looking forward to spending proper time with her friends and family. When she boarded the Cessna 402 it was a small aircraft, which was taking them to Miami, Florida. It took off quickly but descended and crash in the forest beneath. All nine people aboard, including Aaliyah, the pilot and other seven passengers were killed in the crash. Some died immediately and some died later in the hospital. The reasons for this incident were for over luggage and they had found cocaine and alcohol in the pilot’s blood. The pilot had also falsely obtained his licence from the Airways Company, suggesting he was never qualified to begin with. But Aaliyah still remains in many people’s hearts and has a firm position in many music lovers CD collections. Aaliyah tragic story continues to touch the lives of many. Aaliyah had a charismatic presence about her, her smile would light up a room some would say, she would apparently be a delight to be in company of, and with beauty that she rank’s in, I’m sure it would be special. Her African-American roots with her family lay heavy in her heart, but the modern culture of America took over her mind, getting her into fashion and hip-hop. The first record Aaliyah released was called ‘Age ain’t nothing but a Number’ in 1994 on Blackground Records; we sore a much hidden Aaliyah. With baggy trousers, leather jackets, shades, hats, straight hair, and a frown, this wasn’t the Aaliyah we all now watch on the ‘Rock the Boat’ videos. It was when she released ‘One In A Million’, that the sophisticated female side of Aaliyah came out to the world, after that release in 1996, it just kept getting better and better, the real Aaliyah revealing itself. The self-titled album was a mind blowing R&B classic, she looked like a fashion model, with a beautiful pose and striking face, Aaliyah was ready to take on the world of entertainment. It is such a lose that Aaliyah went the way she did, she was right in the chaos of her successful music career, heading off from the sunny island of the Bahamas, and it happened just out of know where. I think that the pilot had taken a drug quantity before he took flight or he wasn’t a qualified pilot in the airways, which was a tragidy to loose such a beautiful star. It’s a reassuring to know that a star named Aaliyah Dana Houghton is up in the sky for us to see somewhere, somehow.
